Black Pepper and Parmesan Scones

Print Friendly Version Print Friendly Version

When most people think of scones, they think of fruit or sweet varieties, such as blueberry or chocolate.  Here’s an interesting savory scone recipe for you:

Ingredients:Black Pepper and Parmesan Scones

  • 1 box of biscuit mix (I used Jiffy Buttermilk – less than $1 at most stores!)
  • 1 teaspoon coarse black pepper
  • 1/2 cup of milk (I used 2%, but you can cut the fat by using skim)
  • 1 teaspoon of a kosher salt
  • 1 cup shredded parmesan cheese
  • pinch of nutmeg
  • 1 egg beaten with 1 teaspoon of water
  • 1 teaspoon sugar

Directions:

Preheat oven to 375.  Combine biscuit mix, black pepper, milk, salt, cheese and nutmeg.  Dust your spoon and hands with flour before handling the dough so it won’t stick.  Section the mixture into 6 mounds and place on a greased cookie sheet.  Brush the mounds with egg wash and sprinkle with a little sugar.  Allow to bake for 10 to 12 minutes.  Enjoy!

How many ounces of biscuit mix is it? I have a REALLY big box of it.

Oh and I’m with Jason on the sweet scone type. But I also sometimes like the savory ones with a bit of cayenne pepper in them.

You would need 8oz (by weight) of your biscuit mix. Thanks for the question :) Let me know how they turn out!
