I absolutely love these cupcakes! Not only are they super cute, but they’re one of my favorites. I love making cupcakes with a unexpected filling. For this recipe, I thought a Mexican chocolate pudding would be a perfect match. It’s warm and comforting with just a little baby kick to it. Spicy haters, don’t be scared, your taste buds will love these flavors. 

Ingredients:Dirt Cupcakes

  • 1 package of yellow cake mix- each brand is different. Make sure you read and ingredients on the package to bake as directed
  • 1 box of milk chocolate pudding mix
  • 2 cups of cold milk
  • 1 TBSP chili powder
  • 1 TBSP cinnamon
  • 1 container of cream cheese icing
  • 24 gummy worms
  • 1 snack sized container of mini Oreos
  • green food coloring


Preheat your oven as directed on the box and prepare cake mix as directed. Once your cupcakes have baked allow them to cool for about an hour. Using a cupcake corer, remove the center of each cupcake. If you don’t have a corer, you can use a teaspoon to scoop out a small center section of the cupcake.

While your cupcakes are cooling, make the Mexican chocolate filing. Add pudding mix, chili powder and cinnamon to a small bowl. Add cold milk and mix together using a hand mixer until the pudding starts to thicken. Transfer filing to a ziplock bag and chill until cupcakes have cooled.

In another small bowl, add cream cheese icing with about 10-15 drops of green food coloring. Mix gently to combine. If needed, add additional drops of green food coloring to get your desired green color. Transfer to a ziplock bag and chill until use.

In a small food processor, add oreos and pulse until crumbed. The oreo crumbles should resemble dirt.

Snip the tip of the ziplock bag with filing and fill the center of each cupcake with Mexican pudding. Snip the tip of the icing ziplock bag and top each cupcake. Sprinkle each cupcake with crumbed oreos and garnish with a gummy worm.
