Tinsley’s TakeRustico – #28 Northern Virginia Magazine’s Top 50 Restaurants

Hiding behind the scenic drive of the George Washington Parkway in Alexandria, VA is where you will find Rustico, #28 on Northern Virginia Magazine’s top 50 restaurant list. Is the food good? Yes, it’s incredible. And I have to say that this unpretentious restaurant is quickly becoming my new favorite joint for pizza, burgers and beer.

What I love about Rustico is that they serve creative, honest food with robust flavors. What’s not to love about a menu that’s full of eccentric appetizers, like risotto tater tots or deep fried devilled eggs? How about crispy wood fire pizzas that are perfectly blistered and topped with fresh local ingredients?

The décor is attractive and bright, and their impressive selection of over 400 beers makes this local favorite the perfect spot for weekend brunch with good friends.

I give Rustico a 3.5 and can’t wait to introduce this hot spot to my happy hour crew.

Jason’s Judgement

Rustico is a decent, solid choice for upscale comfort food in a relaxed atmosphere. As Tinsley mentioned, they offer unique appetizers and snacks, such as risotto ‘tots’ and crispy stuffed dates, both of which were tasty. Also, their cheddar burger ranks up there for me.

While Tinsley may be gushing over Rustico, I find myself taking a more middle-of-the-road attitude towards #28 on the list. Does Rustico offer good food? Sure. Good atmosphere? Sure. Wide beer selection? Yup. But did anything really stand out and wow me? Nope. Would I dine at Rustico again? Sure. Would I make a special trip into Alexandria just for Rustico? Nope.

If you’re looking for a solid choice for lunch or dinner, give Rustico a try. If you’re looking for a place that takes their beers seriously, give Rustico a try. Again, not a bad place, just not one that wowed me. I give Rustico a solid 2.5.
