What’s the Buzz About?

Anyone who knows me, knows that I’m a huge fan of coffee.  Nothing starts my day better than the aroma of freshly brewed coffee.  There are many times throughout my LONG work days that I crave a cup of freshly brewed coffee or a simple iced latte.  Unfortunately for me, the area in which I live is overwhelmed with super chain coffee shops.  Mom and pop shops seem to have a hard time generating enough business to keep their doors open.  Now, I’ll admit that there are times when I jump on the Starbucks bandwagon and pay a ridiculous price for a generic cup of coffee.  However, anytime that I am craving a cup of Joe, I really try to support a local business owner.

In the Prince William Country area, I have found a diamond in the ruff.  The Coffee Buzz, located in the Prince William Hospital, is one mom and pop shop that has outlasted the corporate coffee boom and has remained open for over 14 years.  This adorable little coffee nook is actually the best kept secret in the coffee industry.

The Coffee BuzzHusband and wife team, Wanda and Vern Marshall, set out to be anything but generic.  Their genius business plan was to open a shop in a location where coffee is a necessity.  Every morning, Wanda opens early to doctors and nurses who had been on shift throughout the night.  Every afternoon, the baristas serve the friends and family members who are waiting for loved ones to return from medical procedures.  On a daily basis, patients walk down for a evening treat after a long day of doctor appointments and testing.

Not only is the idea smart, but the coffee is fantastic.  The Coffee Buzz is famous for three things:

1.) Variety of funky flavored lattes

2.) Fun fresh taste of flavored roasted beans

3.) Their amazing blended Mochacinnos

The Coffee Buzz’s variations on funky flavored lattes is what puts them above the top.  Customers love coming down to “the Buzz” to see what new creation is on the menu.  Lattes, such as the Toasted Marshmallow, Iced Cinnabon and Milky Way, are among the customers’ favorites.  Every week, a new “Buzz of the Day” flavor is announced.  My favorite is Christmas Cookie, which is only available during the holiday season.  When that is not available, I look forward to the Turtle Sunday.

Starbucks has frappacinno but The Coffee Buzz has Mochacinnos.  This frothy drink is the prefect treat on a hot summer day.  It’s a simple blend of milk, ice, chocolate and espresso.  When I’m not watching the scale, my favorite is the Oreo Mochacinno.  If you’re one that doesn’t like chocolate, try it the vanilla verison, called a Blast.  Watching your weight (like I am most of the time), no sugar added is delicious lower calorie option.

God forbid you’d have to be in the hospital for any reason, but in the event that you find yourself there, check out this gem of a place.

The Coffee Buzz mochachinos are the BEST!!! Any time I’ve had to be at Prince William Hospital (for xrays, waiting for a friend or family member to get out of surgery, etc.), I make it a point to stop at the Buzz and buy a mochachino! As a matter of fact, I’ve also been known to stop in and get my favorite drink when I’m just in the area running errands. The selection of snacks they have there is exceptional, too — almost anything to tickle the taste buds (danish, candy, sandwiches, chips, yogurt…)

I have never been disappointed in the service at the Buzz, either. Wanda, the owner, and her staff are very friendly — and much deserving of the tips I leave! :o )

Great review of this wonderful coffee shop!

I’m not a coffee drinker but the aroma from the Buzz is heavenly, just like the Chai Tea Lattes I get at least 3 or 4 times a week! Thanks Wanda for starting my day off sweetly!

As a previous employee here, I had the opportunity to taste most of the drinks offered. And 99.99999% of the time, I loved what I was drinking. A personal favorite of mine was the Coconut Mango Milkshake. Wanda and I used to share milkshakes and we used to call it Sticky Rice Milkshake. Delicious and refreshing! Yum! :)

This was my very first job and I loved everything we made! The dreamsicle Italian soda was the best and I still make it at home to this day! The iced chai is amazing too! The Coffee Buzz is definitely the best kept coffee secret in all of Manassas! Wanda and Vern were the best bosses too! I hope to see them around for a very long time!
